Worst Icon Ever [Mar. 16th, 2011|12:29 am]
...
Worst icon ever, until I bother to make a new one.

Been checking up on people here now and again, keeping vague and lazy sorts of tabs on those that I don't see on a daily basis. You guys probably all have those Facebook things too, doncha? I am like a shriveled old lady, and will never keep up with all the bloggery. Well, here goes things on my end:

I got an apprenticeship at a tattoo studio, and have been logging oodles of hours there since November. I'm just over 1/3 through the 2,080 shop hours that my contract dictates I owe, and have been gradually forging respect and earning responsibilities from my mentor and fellow shop staff. In the next few months I will begin preliminary tattooing (practice that is not on clientele), and may very well earn some humble income from the trade by this next October.

I also still work full time at a coffee shop, so my free time is very limited.

Still tired, still cranky, still short. The defining aspects of my life never really change.

Back working silly hours in a silly coffee shop for now, but I've applied for some barback jobs and will be checking up on the studios tomorrow.

Also? I was wondering if anyone else was kinda interested in this "Monsters" movie coming out, because I think I am. Kinda. Or "The Host".

Still don't have a day job, so go go art commissions.
Gonna rearrange my silly DA account; move stuff to a different site and whatnot.
Order some business cards, finish flash portfolio, get interviews outta the way...

I've got this sorta trudging thing going on right now. I'm in a kind of mood to do some hardcore work, but I'm not really enthusiastic about it? Whatever, here goes.

Put that on your resume... [Apr. 23rd, 2010|07:05 pm]

On Monday, the 19th of April, my messenger bag was stolen from my workplace in Farmington Hills (Michigan), its contents including: my ID/license, ATM card, checkbook, two paychecks, iPod, ticket for a concert, and wallet with petty cash. I canceled everything I could, and waited.

As of today it seems one Anna Marie Bozeman of Detroit has tried to write two checks under my name, and withdraw money from my account. Now I have her name and license number (among other information), and figured I'd put her name out there on the internet for anyone who chooses to Google it, say, for hiring purposes.

Here's to you, Anna.

Big Ol' Mumblegrumble Storm A'brewin' [Feb. 26th, 2010|07:28 pm]
...
Klunky (my car) was broken into and hotwired again a week or so ago. Luckily the last time this happened I accidentally ordered a steering column twice, so I still have an extra one lying around. If you count that and the spare door that is in the trunk because I never got around to replacing the dented one that is currently attached (not to mention the one we also replaced on the other side), that means I've probably hoarded all the extra parts for a burgundy '94 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra in existence.

This makes three (hotwirings/thefts of car) for three (years I've lived in the area).

Did I mention my apartment building has also been sold into different ownership three times? One of them didn't even last four months. There are no late-night security guards anymore, the gym is off-limits because it's being "fixed", and the creepy laundry room with its defunct token system is pretty much useless. The troublesome tenants that keep causing damage to the building are not being evicted; latest escapades (or 'sexscapes' to bring back an old gem) include punching holes in the wall, unwrapping the firehoses and using the fire extinguishers in the stairways, breaking the front lobby window, shoving an old christmas tree down the garbage chute, letting dogs crap in the hallway, and melting the elevator floor numbers with a lighter. Most of these shenanigans are from one particular family... we all know it, we all file complaints about it... squat.

I kinda hate my job now.

Hey look! Boring stuff! [Feb. 8th, 2010|07:31 pm]
...
Lessee...

The three of us were approved and are now on the waiting list for an apartment. I want to start a savings account once I get a bit more money put aside, which shouldn't be too difficult since my bosses have apparently decided to get as much work out of me as possible before June.

I really want to buy a coffee table. Nothing christens a new home like choosing accessories specifically for it. How boring am I.

We finally got a chance to visit Cambree in Bowling Green. The weather was particularly bitter, but we made up for it with our shameless gluttony.

My new computer was messed up so I sent it back and will be getting a replacement, maybe, soon. I also got a duplicate phone from one of Cambree's grad friends that she just happened to be selling, and I just happened to need, because it just happened to break. New busted hotness abounds.

I'm working on one of the three projects I told myself I would casually work on for the past 18 months (ha), and it happens to be the one I was avoiding the most (double ha). I was just struck by this urge to make a move on it, which really is the only way I progress with these kinds of things. I figure I'll ride the ambition train as long as it's taking the time to stop for me. "Choo choo", I guess.

More Happening [Jan. 30th, 2010|11:57 pm]
...
I am currently writing a couple of cover letters; one regarding art stuff and another of more general skills, the latter of which I'm aiming toward getting a bartending (barback, or whathaveye) job. I've been looking into this occupation for a couple of months, and at this point I think it would mostly come down to finding just the right place. I've picked up these odd tendencies of being more friendly/confident/borderline-charismatic lately from the barista grind, and I apparently don't have any qualms about dealing with drunkards or troublemakers. A lot of the mundane responsibilities of cleaning, restocking, ordering, and whatnot can't be much different from those of my current job, so that leaves the processes of memorizing drinks (simple) and properly preparing them (less simple). Practicing mixing and prep skills would be pretty easy if I bought a few things, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself. This week's trek to GR is for all of us to scout the area regarding job availability, so... we'll see.

Also! I haven't quite cleared this with my soon-to-be roommates yet, but I would really like to host a 2010 Mid-night Picnic. If things aren't too crunchy time-wise, I figure the new apartment would be a great place to have it as that would sorta follow the Grand Rapids location tradition, and if it's scheduled either at the beginning or end of June that means it will happen right before or after the vacation I have planned so Emily might be able to attend as she will be in the arearunonsentencegeezus.
